Hearkening back to the days when milk was delivered to homes in area
Hannah Fisher’s reminiscences of 1940s-era door-to-door Garner Dairy milk deliveries, a tale that Hannah shared with us in a December article, jogged the memory of Harry Hackney of Tampa, Fla. Harry was one of the young men who helped deliver bottles of Garner Dairy milk to customers’ doorsteps. He remembers his days on the milk truck in great detail, and after reading his description of a typical delivery day, you may find yourself wanting to put your milk bottles out for the milkman tomorrow morning and attach a note for him to leave some delicious chocolate milk. Finally, in November, Joyce Mayers of Brownsville asked me to seek the Roundtable’s help in determining what ever happened to the Brownsville High School trophies earned during the first half of the 20th century, trophies that had not been seen by anyone since the old high school on High Street was closed in the mid-1960’s. We presented Joyce’s question in our November article, and as usual, the Roundtable came through. Next week, join me here for the dusty tale of the discovery of those missing Brownsville High School trophies.
