Steve Martin hopes to bring the house down during awards ceremony
The stars will be out in force on March 23 at the 75th Academy Awards. To be hosted by Steve Martin, the ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a 30-minute arrival segment at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
The comic actor, who’s currently enjoying the biggest hit of his career with the comedy “Bringing Down the House,” hosted previously and took a classy approach to the proceedings.
One disappointing piece of news for Eminem fans: The rapper-turned-actor won’t be performing “Lose Yourself,” which is nominated for best song and created by Eminem for his hit film, “8 Mile.”
The performer will reportedly be on vacation the night of the Oscars, though he could change his mind and still show up to rock the house.
According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the performers appearing as presenters will include:
– Ben Affleck, who’s making his fourth Oscar-show appearance, shared an Academy Award with Matt Damon for the original screenplay of “Good Will Hunting” (1997) and currently stars in “Daredevil.”
– Halle Berry, who’s making her third Oscar-show appearance, won an Academy Award as best actress last year for “Monster Ball’s” and enjoyed a huge box-office hit in 2002 with the 007 epic “Die Another Day.”
– Jim Carrey, who’s making his fourth Oscar-show appearance and recently completed “Bruce Almighty,” a comedy about an ordinary guy suddenly in possession of god-like powers.
– Jennifer Connelly, who’s making her first Oscar-show appearance as a presenter, won an Academy Award as best supporting actress last year for “A Beautiful Mind” and can be seen later this year in “The Hulk,” opening June 20.
– Cameron Diaz, who’s making her fourth Oscar-show appearance and co-stars in “Gangs of New York,” nominated as best picture.
– Michael Douglas, who’s making his 10th Oscar-show appearance as a presenter, won an Oscar as a producer for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975) and for best actor in “Wall Street” (1987).
– Colin Farrell, who’s making his Oscar-show debut and can currently be seen in two hits, “Daredevil” and “The Recruit.”
– Harrison Ford, who’s making his third Oscar-show appearance and previously received a nomination as best actor for “Witness” (1985).
– Jennifer Garner, who’s making her first Oscar-show appearance and currently stars on the big screen in “Daredevil” and on television in “Alias.”
– Salma Hayek, who’s making her third Oscar-show appearance and is nominated as best actress for “Frida.”
– Kate Hudson, who’s making her second Oscar-show appearance and currently stars in the romantic-comedy smash, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
– Meg Ryan, who’s making her second Oscar-show appearance and who will soon be seen as real-life boxing coach Jackie Kallen in “Against the Ropes.”
– Will Smith, who’s making his fourth Oscar-show appearance and was nominated last year as best actor for the title role in “Ali.”
– Renee Zellweger, who’s making her third Oscar-show appearance, was nominated last year as best actress for “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”
Zellweger has been nominated in the same category this year for her performance in “Chicago.”
