Pittsburgh Zoo offers free admission to kids
PITTSBURGH – Kids 13 and under will receive free admission to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium from this Saturday through Friday, Dec. 31, when accompanied by an adult during Indoor Kids’ Zoofari. Indoor Kids’ Zoofari will also feature Animal Activities Days this Saturday and Sunday and Sunday through Wednesday, Dec. 26-29.
Planned animal activities include special reptile feedings, gorillas with wrapped gift boxes containing food and an orangutan bubble bath. Kids can help wrap the gift boxes for the gorillas from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Tropical Forest Complex. Activities and crafts will also be happening in the PPG Aquarium from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all days.
Santa Claus will be paying the Zoo a visit during Kids’ Zoofari. On Saturday and Sunday this weekend from 1 to 4 p.m., and Dec. 20-23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids can stop by and see the jolly old elf at the Discovery Pavilion in Kids Kingdom.
The Zoo has also been named an official hub for Santa’s mail, so the kids can bring along their letters to Santa and put them in the mailbox near the reindeer paddock. The Zoo’s reindeer will be making express mail delivery services to the North Pole.
On Friday, Dec. 31, the Zoo will host its third annual Noon Year’s Eve Party with Radio Disney in the PPG Aquarium. The little ones who can’t quite make it to midnight can take part in a countdown to noon, complete with hats and noisemakers that the kids will make. Radio Disney will provide entertainment, games and prizes.
The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is open year-round. For information, call 412-665-3640. Visit the Zoo’s Web site at www.pittsburghzoo.com.
