Manager searches for historic artifacts for turn-of-century Geyer Opera House in Scottdale
SCOTTDALE – Scottdale Showtime Theater is searching for items and information relating to the days when it was the Geyer Opera House during the early 1900s. “We are particularly interested in playbills, programs, special tickets, advertisements or other items that indicate the theater’s history,” said Tina Graft, theater manager.
The Scottdale Showtime Theater was opened in 1900 as the Geyer Opera House.
It continued as such until 1912 when it was sold to a group of shareholders.
The name was retained, but the performances changed. The stage then hosted vaudeville shows.
“The theater was alive during this time period. Unfortunately, much of the details are gone,” Graft said.
The building later became the Strand Theater. It is remembered by many in Scottdale as a place to meet friends and see a movie on the weekend.
Graft is searching for information about the theater’s past to be part of a display in the upper lobby.
Anyone who has an item of interest is asked to contact the theater manager during box office hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

“I would enjoy seeing any tidbit from the past, no matter what it is,” Graft said.
“History is more exciting than most people think,” she added.
