Uniontown native to kick off recital series at Trinity church
Gary P. Garletts, music director and organist at Ardmore Presbyterian Church in suburban Philadelphia, will kick off the 2004-05 Recital Series of Trinity United Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22. His recital will display the versatility of Trinity’s 46-rank, three-manual Austin pipe organ and feature excepts from several familiar and well-loved American hymn preludes.
A native of western Pennsylvania and former director of music at Trinity, Garletts earned music degrees at Oberlin College and Duquesne University.
Garletts recently marked 20 years of church music and has been at Ardmore Presbyterian Church since July 1999. He previously had similar positions at First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, as well as Trinity for 11 years.
He serves as artistic director of the Chester County Choral Society.
He also served for four years as music director of the Greater Uniontown Chorale. As an associate of the American Guild of Organists, he is dean of the Lancaster chapter.
Garletts frequently performs as a soloist and accompanist at concerts in the Northeast.
Recent engagements have includes appearances at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Bach Marathon, First Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh and the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival.
He resides in Havertown with his wife Twila and son Nathan.
The concert is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be received in support of the recital series.
A reception for the artist will follow the recital.
Trinity United Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Morgantown and Fayette streets in Uniontown.
Ample parking is available in lots across from the church. Handicapped parking and a ramp are located behind the church in the alley near Midtown Foodland.
