Chalk Hill winery to cook up chili competition
Chalk Hill – The Christian W. Klay Winery’s sixth annual Chili Cook Off and Mountain Harvest Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. This year’s event will benefit the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts and the State Theatre in Uniontown.
“The College of Creative Arts is honored that the Christian W. Klay Winery has included us in what promises to be a most enjoyable fundraising activity,” said Dean Bernie Schultz. “The winery’s annual Chili Cook Off has become a well-recognized event in our area, and we are deeply appreciative that this year’s proceeds will assist our students in helping to create the future of the arts.”
The historic State Theatre in Uniontown has been one of the benefactors of this event for the past five years. The new executive director Marty Schiff has lots of plans in store for this year’s event.
“As one of the benefactors of the chili cook off, I cannot encourage people enough to come to the Christian W. Klay Winery for a magnificent fall day in the mountains. Let’s help to keep the arts alive in Fayette County by supporting the sixth annual chili cook off,” Schiff said.
The afternoon will feature music by Fred Adams and the WVU Steel Drum Band, food and craft vendors, activities for the kids, a silent auction, grape stomping, and of course, samples of the award-winning wines from the Christian W. Klay collection.
“We are looking for cooks for our salsa and chili competitions,” said Sharon Klay, winery owner. “Entry your special recipe today and, come to join in the fun for two very worthwhile causes. If you don’t cook – just come to the mountains, listen to the music and enjoy the day.”
To entry your chili or salsa or for further information, contact the winery directly at 724-439-3424.
There is an admission fee. All proceeds will benefit the WVU College of Creative Arts and the State Theatre.
