Asbury Festival Recital Series to launch new 2004-05 concert series
With two highly successful seasons under its belts, the board of directors of the Asbury Festival Recital Series announced that it will launch a new 2004-2005 concert series in October. The new line-up of performances include a guest organ recitalist, a Christmas opera for the entire family and a classical instrumental trio.
The series will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, with a recital by organist Camille Bishop, director of music and organist at the historic Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Macon, Ga. She is a frequent and highly sought-after recitalist and a member of the Macon Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Bishop is also the coordinator of the popular Cherry Blossom Organ Concerts series at Mulberry United Methodist Church.
On Sunday, Dec. 12, the Asbury series will present Gian-Carlo Menotti’s classic Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”
The opera, sung in English, is about a poor shepherd boy and his encounter with the Three Kings on their way to see the Christ Child.
The Asbury Chancel Choir, under the direction of Bill Dreucci, will blend talents with professional singers to bring this fully staged and costumed holiday classic to Uniontown.
The Monongahela Trio, a faculty instrumental trio from the West Virginia University College of Music will appear on Sunday, March 13. The trio includes flute, cello and piano and will perform a mix of pieces from baroque and classical to 20th century.
