Actors and Artists of Fayette County will present “Nothing But Nonsense” Oct. 7-10 at Scottdale Showtime Theater. Marlena Solomon will direct. “Nothing But Nonsense” is a complete comedy revue of 10 skits with the underlying theme of parodying familiar television programs such as “This is Your Wife,” “Fishnet,” “Just a Soap Opera” and “Monster to Monster.” For more information, call Solomon at 724-887-5814.

The State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown will kick off its 15th anniversary season with “The Best of Broadway” featuring the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber at 8 p.m. Oct. 23. Songs from “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Cats,” “Evita,” “Phantom of the Opera” and more will be sung by performers who played in these shows on Broadway. Nov. 20 brings “The Flying Karamozov Brothers” back to the theater. The show features silly dances, world-class juggling feats and lots of audience participation. The New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra and Soloists will bring “A Viennese Christmas” to the theater on Dec. 17. Feb. 5 will bring “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” “My One and Only” will be presented March 15. This is a musical comedy featuring Gershwin classics. The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s production of “All the Great Books (abridged)” will be presented April 2. “Steel Magnolias,” a story that takes place in Truvy’s Beauty Shop, will be presented April 10. The story is about five women gathering for more than just a wash and a set. “Paul Consentino and The Boilermaker Jazz Band” will serve up jazz, swing and old time ballads in the New Orleans style on May 7. Asbury Festival Recital Series will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, with a recital by organist Camille Bishop. The Point Marion Lions Club will once again begin its annual fund-raiser with the Music Jamboree, beginning Saturday, Oct. 9, at the roller skating rink in Point Marion. The doors and kitchen will open at 5:30 p.m. The open stage will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Betty Jo Heater will appear at 7:30 p.m., followed by Old Habit at 8:30 p.m. Both groups will present country and gospel music selections. The Greater Uniontown Children’s Choir will accept new members for the 2004-05 concert season. All interested children may audition any Thursday evening prior to choir rehearsal at 6:15 p.m. beginning Thursday through Oct. 21. Students are asked to prepare “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the audition. The choir rehearses on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. September through May in the music room at Dunbar Borough Elementary School on Pechin Road, which is located across from the Fayette County Fairgrounds. “Symphony on Wheels” will travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 16, to attend the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) concert titled “Barbara Streisand Songbook.” Marin Hamlisch and the PSO will perform the music of one of the greatest vocalists of all time, Barbara Streisand. Hamlisch has invited show-stopping singer Julie Budd, whose one-woman show has dazzled audiences in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and London, to sing Streisand’s favorites. Discounted tickets for seating in the grand tier or orchestra level are available. Bus transportation from the Uniontown Mall is also available at a cost for a round-trip ticket. The Greater Uniontown Chorale Concert to benefit St. Vincent DePaul Society will be held Oct. 3. A consolidated choir composed of members of the Greater Uniontown Chorale and singers from area Catholic and Protestant choirs will sing Charles Gounod’s “St. Cecilia Mass” at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the St. John the Evangelist Church at 50 Jefferson Ave., Uniontown. “Jennifer: A Portrait in Flowers,” featuring traditional art forms plus creative photography by the late Jennifer A. Lapisardi whose work won several awards in New York state and elsewhere, will be featured through Sept. 30 at 64 Crayons Cultural Center in Brownsville. The new show will extend beyond the Thompson House ballroom. Pictures will hang all through the third floor. 64 Crayons Cultural Center, located in the Thompson House, 815 Water St., Brownsville, will resume Tuesday evening writing workshops from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Emphasis will be on writing short plays for production in the spring 2005. The fifth annual Hardy Family Art Exhibition and Sale will run through Oct. 31 at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in Farmington. Morrell Volunteer Fire Department will hold an Octoberfest on Oct. 22-23 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, located along Route 119 between Uniontown and Connellsville. The Friendship Hill Association and the National Park Service will sponsor the annual celebration of the life and times of Albert Gallatin and the culture of the Allegheny Plateau from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Friendship Hill National Historic Site on Route 166 North, Point Marion. This year’s FestiFall will include a demonstration of an 18th-century swivel gun (small cannon) and an encampment of Native American re-enactors. Mount Pleasant Glass & Ethnic Festival will sparkle on Sept. 24-26. The second annual Festival of Lights parade will bring the lights to the streets once again this year to kick off the event. There is no fee for participants to enter the parade, and there is no fee for spectators.

The parade will begin at Eagle Street at the top of town and will make its way down Main Street, around the doughboy and then onto Diamond Street through the festival.

Grand Dream Productions will present “The Gin Game,” an award-winning play about the “golden years” at the Grand Theater in Elizabeth today and Saturday and Sept. 23-25 at 8 p.m. and Sunday and Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. There is a charge for adults, seniors and students. A musical tribute to Perry Como will return to Canonsburg in September for four performances only. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division and all Fun Run participants will receive awards.
