Sept. 19, 2004 Church bazaar

The Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church will hold its annual church bazaar on Oct. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors are invited to enjoy lunch, crafts, baked goods and odds and ends.

Grace Chapel is located at 1214 Walnut Hill Road in High House, four miles from the Walnut Hill Exit of the bypass. Everyone is invited to attend.

Preschool hour

The German-Masontown Public Library is holding registration for the preschool story hour, which will be held on Wednesdays from noon until 1 p.m. The story hour classes will begin in October and run through May.

Children who participate should be 31/2 to 6 years of age. Two certified teachers, Judy Bogozi and Donna Parish, will conduct the story hour.

Registration is free and should be done at the German-Masontown Public Library during operating hours. Class size will be limited, so register your child as early as possible.

Oldies show

All Saints Church will hold an oldies show featuring The Marcells on Saturday in the social hall, 215 W. Church Ave., Masontown. Tickets are $30 per person and include a catered dinner and entertainment by an Ann Murray impersonator and The Marcells. Tickets are available by calling the parish office at 724 583-7866.

The Marcells combined their singing abilities in the area of rock and roll and went on to “Doo-Wop.” Their hits include: “Blue Moon,” “Heartaches,” “Goodbye to Love” and “Sunday Kind of Love.”

Playing after The Marcells will be The 45’s.

Book idea group

There will be a meeting of the Book Idea Exchange Group on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Citizens’ Center on Main Street in Masontown. The group first enjoys a luncheon together and then discusses books that members are currently reading or have read. Participants not only get a chance to hear about some good books, but also join in the fellowship.

Cookbooks for sale

The Friends of the German-Masontown Library are selling the second printing of their popular cookbook, “Cooking with Friends.” This cookbook contains the favorite recipes of many local residents. The cost is $8.

Cookbooks may be purchased at the library. For more information from club president, Gen Rhoades, call 724 583-7569.

Spare change

The German-Masontown Public Library will gladly accept donations of any loose change that anyone may have.

Change does not have to be wrapped. Drop it off in the coin bottle located in the library. Your change can help make a “change” in our library.

Chicken/biscuit dinner

A chicken and biscuit dinner will be held at the Fairchance Free Methodist Church, 53 S. Morgantown St., Fairchance, on Oct. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. The eat-in or take-out meals are $5 per adult and $3 for children 12 and younger.

A.G. senior activities

The Albert Gallatin senior class and their sponsor, Wayne Bowers, have announced future dates for the 2005 graduating class.

Girls’ volleyball senior night will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Boys’ soccer senior night will be held on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. on the football field.

Golf and cross country seniors will be honored on Friday at 6:45 p.m. on the football field. The band seniors will be honored during halftime at the same game.

The homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 8. The girls’ soccer senior night will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the football field.

Football and cheerleading senior night will be held at pre-game on Oct. 22.

The fall formal will be held on Nov. 20 at the Lakeside Party Center-Crystal Ball Room.

Seniors and parents should mark their calendars for March 23 at 1 p.m. when the senior Florida trip will begin. The students will return on March 29.

The senior prom will be held on Friday, May 20, aboard the Gateway Clipper, Majestic.

Graduation is planned for Thursday, June 2.

AG senior parents

A meeting of the parents of Albert Gallatin Area Senior High School seniors will be held on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Parents and guardians of 2005 graduating seniors are asked to attend. Post prom plans will be discussed.

Fall yard sale

A fall yard sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ft. Mason Historical Society, 548 N. Main St., Masontown.

Remember the Historical Society when cleaning out closets, attics, basements or garages, and consider donating your little-used items to the yard sale.

Call Clara Pento at 724-583-2069 or Kris Kelly at 724-583-8400 to make arrangements to pick up items or make a drop-off at the museum building. Clothing and books will not be accepted.

All money raised will help with the winter utilities. The public’s help is greatly appreciated.

Gospel concert set

Masontown United Methodist Church is holding a gospel concert today.

After the recent fire, services are being held at 9:30 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Masontown, corner of West Church and South Washington avenues.

Steve and Apryl Caldwell from Altoona make up the singing duo of Gospel Sounds.

The concert is open to the public. There is no charge, but a free-will offering will be taken. For more information, call the church office at 724-583-9207.

Festifall walk/run

Included in the Festifall activities on Sept. 26, the Friendship Hill Association has sanctioned the second 5K walk and run to be held on the grounds of Friendship Hill. This event is not a race: there is no competition involved. The walk/run is for fun and to help raise money for the site.

Everyone who donates $5 will receive a screen-printed commemorative T-shirt with a special logo designed just for this event. Sizes adult through extra large will be on hand. Other sizes can be ordered for an additional charge.

The course will begin at the picnic pavilion in the parking lot and the route to be followed will be marked around the grounds.

The starting time for walkers is 5 p.m. This year, the run will begin at 9 a.m. Applications and shirts can be picked up at the registration site on the grounds during Festifall. All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver upon registration.

Italian Ladies Club

Italian Ladies Club of Masontown will celebrate its 70th anniversary on Oct. 6 with dinner at 4 p.m. at the Coal Baron Restaurant. Reservations are due by Sept. 30 and may be made with any officer.
