Shlosky turning over title
The yearlong reign of 18-year-old-Paige Shlosky as 2004 Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen is coming to a close. She won the title last August with her poise, beauty, personality and a vocal selection, “All of Me.” She has been an ambassador for the bituminous coal industry since then and will make her final appearance at the pageant Sunday.
Shlosky has participated in many activities, including the Coal Show parade; presented awards at the Bicycle and Pet parades; appeared in the Waynesburg Christmas parade; and aided Santa at “Light Up Night” on the Carmichaels town square. She also sang the national anthem at the Lions Club Christmas tournament, and presented team awards.
She made the traditional underground tour of RAG coalmine, and ran the longwall.
In May, she and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shlosky, went to Harrisburg, where she met legislators and attended a dinner hosted by George Ellis, president of the Pennsylvania Coal Association.
A recent graduate of Carmichaels Area High School, she was class valedictorian.
She plans to attend Baldwin-Wallace College and major in musical theater.
