Musical comes alive

BROWNSVILLE – “Brigadoon,” called by its authors “a whimsical musical fantasy” will be presented March 11-13 at Brownsville Area High School.

“Brigadoon” is a musical set in a magical village in Scotland. It comes to life every 100 years and disappears after a single day.

Two American adventurers find Brigadoon on a day when a wedding is to take place. The old village schoolmaster played by Christopher Scabis tells the story of Brigadoon to Tommy played by Travis Neil.

In 1747, a miracle happened which permitted the village to hibernate except for one day in each century. The miracle would cease, however, if any native left.

Performing lead roles in the large cast are Travis Neil, Heidi Haufman, Travis Demo, Melissa DeSimone, Toni L. May, Andrew Basile and Jordon Sealy. Tickets are available at the door. Advance reservations are suggested.

Dinner/theater show set

FLATWOODS – Central Christian Church will team up with Flatwoods Productions for a dinner/theater presentation on Friday, Feb. 25, at the church, located at 23 S. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown.

The show will be a musical version of “Tom Sawyer.” Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the show following at 7:30 p.m. For reservations, call the church at 724-438-6821.

Mark Twain’s classic story comes to musical life in this adaptation of America’s favorite book, the irresistible story of a 14-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. The story is set in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Miss., a bustling town on the banks of the Mississippi River.

In the course of the story, Tom matches wits with his stern Aunt Polly, falls in love with Becky Thatcher, and goes on the adventure of his life with Becky and Huckleberry Finn.

As the musical unfolds, the audience shares with Tom and his friends all the rollicking and heart-stopping adventures found in Twain’s masterpiece, whether it’s Tom tricking his friends into white washing the fence (“Smart Like That”), crossing swords with schoolmaster Lemuel Dobbins (“Hey, Tom Sawyer”), getting lost in McDougal’s Cave (“Angels Lost”) or taking on the Reverend Sprague in church (“In the Bible”).

Running for only one performance “Tom Sawyer” is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration for the whole family. Dinner will consist of salad, Swiss steak, parsilied potatoes, green beans, rolls and butter, apple pie with ice cream, and a choice of coffee, tea or soft drink. There is a cost for adults and children.

Seating is limited so call 724-438-6821 as soon as possible.
