State Theatre to undergo renovations, offer new shows

2 min read

In a continuing effort to provide an outstanding fine arts experience, the State Theatre is currently undergoing a number of renovations. Some of the renovations, including new restrooms, will be completed by Saturday’s performance of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

The renovations started in December and include repainting the walls and ceiling of all lobby areas as well as replacing the carpet, building a new concession area, restoring the classic box office, overhauling the first-floor restrooms and adding an accessible restroom for the handicapped and the new addition of a cappuccino bar to the promenade level lobby.

“Our goal is to enhance the theater experience for all who attend. I think that doubling the capacity of the women’s restrooms will be an added convenience and make a difference,” said Marty Schiff, the theater’s executive director. “It is exciting for me to see the initial progress of renovating and restoring this historic centerpiece for the arts in Fayette County.

“If you have not visited the Theatre recently, make us a part of your plans for 2005 and discover our new look and the restoration of some of our historic past,” Schiff said.

In addition to “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” upcoming performances include, “Three Dog Night & The Grass Roots” on Feb. 12, “My One and Only” on Feb. 26, “The Reduced Shakespeare Company – All the Great Books” on April 2, “Steel Magnolias” on April 10, “A Night with the Stars of Rock and Roll” on April 30 and Boilermaker Jazz Band on May 7.

Tickets are available for all performances but are going quickly. To purchase tickets, contact the Theatre directly at 724-439-1360 or stop by the office at 27 E. Main St. in downtown Uniontown.

Tours of the theater may be arranged by calling the box office.

The historic State Theatre, situated in the heart of revitalized downtown Uniontown, is the community’s centerpiece for arts. For further information, contact the theater directly at 724-439-1360 or visit the Web site at www.statetheatre.info.
