Folk trio to perform, educate at Cal U

CALIFORNIA – Members of the entire California University community and general public are welcome to exercise their inner performer, as well as learn how musicians hone their craft, what influences them and a variety of other topics during a special presentation of the folk trio Simple Gifts on March 1 and 2. The two-day event at Cal U’s Gallagher Recital Hall (Room 107 of the Gallagher Music Center on campus) will kick off on March 1 at 4 p.m. with a workshop on Appalachian traditions. Participants will then have the opportunity to perform what they learned and created at a public concert at which the trio will perform at 7 p.m. In between, the trio will present a lecture on Women and the Performing Arts at 5 p.m.

The festivities will conclude at 8 p.m. with a Jam Session. On March 2, the musicians will discuss “The Folk Process” at 9 a.m. and “Ethnic Music” at 11 a.m.
