Snow-building contest, chili cook-off to offer family fun at Winterfest Weekend

Farmington – Beat the winter chill at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort with WinterFest Weekend 2005. Scheduled for Feb. 4-6, the three-day event features activities for the entire family.

Events start on Friday, Feb. 4 with entertainment by The Davisson Brothers Band.

Saturday includes ice-carving demonstrations, a chili cook-off, Ski Dummy competitions and the Family Olympics.

Sunday features a Big Air Competition for skiers and snowboarders.

A half-pipe competition and additional ice-carving demonstrations will also be offered on Sunday.

Nemacolin’s Kidz Club program will operate a Kidz Corner on Saturday and Sunday with special arts and crafts activities.

Ice-carving demonstrations will be conducted by Nemacolin Woodlands’ own Paul Haines, chef at The Hitchin’ Post and the Caddyshack.

The chili cook-off features area restaurants including Boston Beanery, Braddock Inn, Caileigh’s, Peter’s Torchlight and three restaurants at Nemacolin – The Hitchin’ Post, The Tavern and The Golden Trout.

WinterFest Weekend is for the local community, guests and families to enjoy the many winter events that take place at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.

Families who attend WinterFest Weekend can compete for prizes in the Family Olympics, with games including:

– Snowman Building Contest, a timed event for who can build the biggest snowman.

– Paintball Target Shoot, participants can shoot snowmen with paintball markers.

– Polar Bear Golf, play nine holes of miniature golf at the Fallingrock Mini Golf Course. The lowest score wins.

– Snowball Launch, participants can sling shot snowballs for the longest distance.

Hours for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s WinterFest Weekend are 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4; noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6.
