local The Herald-Standard Pavilion at the Woodland Zoo in Farmington will host a Freedom Festival on Saturday. The day will feature Christian music by The John Wyrick Band, 3Thirty3 and other local soloists and music ministries. Also appearing are Youth for Christ, Men of Faith, Prison Fellowship Ministries, The Savage Family and Randy & Chris Wilson. Admission to the concert is free. The zoo will be open and also available for regular admission price. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. and will last well into the evening.

The VFW Band will offer a Fourth of July celebration today during the Storey Square Summer Lunch Series. Caileigh’s Restaurant will provide lunch and beverage available for purchase. This year the lunch series is located on the lawn at Central School on Church Street in Uniontown. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday throughout August. First Federal Savings and Loan Association, located at 1 W. Main St., Uniontown, will sponsor this week’s performance. The 31st annual Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival will host Wolf Creek Session, performing today from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the Laurel Stage at Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg. A patriotic band concert by the Scottdale Area Concert Band will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday Sunday on the Diamond in Ligonier. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Town Hall Auditorium. Warren Shirer will direct approximately 30 band members, as they salute the United States with a patriotic concert. The Rev. Paul McCracken will deliver the invocation. Participants are asked to bring their blankets and chairs. The Ligoner Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event. These concerts depend on donations collected by Boy Scout Troop No. 372 and a grant from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Program of Westmoreland County to continue.

Ohiopyle State Park will celebrate the nation’s independence by lighting Ohiopyle Falls over the holiday weekend. The falls will be lit from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. New lighting in the parking lot adjacent to the falls will assist visitors in enjoying this site. All Saints School located in Masontown will hold its first annual Freedom Festival from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday. It will be held at 100 S. Washington St. There will be entertainment, raffles, refreshments and a variety of food selections, such as ribs, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, nachos, popcorn and baked goods. The festival will include activities for all age groups.

Symphony in the Summer, an outdoor concert, will be presented by the Westmoreland Symphony at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Robertshaw Amphitheatre at St. Clair Park in downtown Greensburg. Conducted by music director, Kypros Markou, the concert will include light classics and popular music and will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s famous 1812 Overture. Open to the public, the concert is sponsored in part by First Commonwealth Bank, Greensburg Foundation, city of Greensburg and Westmoreland County Arts Grant Program. Country music will be presented Saturday at the Sagebrush Round-Up on Bunner Ridge near Fairmont, W.Va. Featured acts includes Ray Hileman & The Wheels of Country, Skyles Spencer, Betty Jo Heater & The Countryairs. Country music starts at 6 p.m. with the open stage. “Stagecoach,” the house band, backs single acts and new talent. The scheduled portion of the show then starts at 7 p.m. and continues until about 11 p.m. There is a donation for adults, and children under 12 are admitted free. IndianRocks Music Show, home of The Midnight Cowboys, will present country music every Friday night at Reedsville, W.Va. Warm up starts at 6:30 p.m. today. Concessions will be available. Fredericktown Area Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit organization, will sponsor the event. Chautauqua is an Indian term for the exchange of ideas. The event will feature crafts, concerts and outdoor performances.

Fredericktown is the only town to have the last cabled Ferry on the Mon.

The 2005 Spirit of Liberty Bike will appear at the Palms Yacht Club in Lower Speers, Washington County, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. The Palms Yacht Club will sponsor several activities as part of Riverfest 2005 in conjunction with the Chautauqua on the Mon to offer this event, kicking off the July 4 weekend.
