The CalRep Pennsylvania Summer Theatre School will return this year. Applications are available for enrollment in the summer theater school, hosted by California University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theatre and Dance. The Downtown Business District Authority will host the second Arts In The City event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. Food vendors will be in the 911 parking lot. Produced under the guidance of the Fayette County Historical Society, the video is filled with hundreds of photographs, interviews with historians and residents from the county, plus profiles of many towns and communities. The book “Abel Gray: A Romance of the National Road,” written by A.F. Hill in 1876, was reproduced by the historical society in 1998 as a fictional novel with accurate depictions of the National Road. The Smock Historical Society announces that its museum is open through Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays or by special appointment. The museum portrays life in a Pennsylvania coal “patch” during the coal and coke era. Community Action Southwest is celebrating its first annual “Family Fun In The Valley Day,” on Friday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the New Eagle Fire Hall in New Eagle. Family Fun In The Valley Day is designed to offer residents throughout the Mon Valley an opportunity to have some fun and learn about the many services offered, not only by Community Action Southwest, but by other local service providers.
