The Pittsburgh Symphony will perform a benefit concert for Communities In Schools at the newly renovated State Theatre in downtown Uniontown at 8 p.m. Sunday. Ticket sales will be handled through the State Theatre box office, which can be reached at 724-439-1360. All proceeds benefit Communities In Schools, a United Way participating agency. Uniontown WalMart, located 80 Matthew Drive, will present the 2005 Car, Bike and Truck Show from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The first 100 vehicles will receive dash plaques and goody bags. The event will feature a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, food and games. D.J. Pete Highlands will provide music. Trophies will be awarded to the top three and the manager’s choice. The event will benefit Give Kids the World.
Ballet Lafayette, Fayette County’s resident dance company, will hold auditions for the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday for children ages 7 to 11 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts on Main Street, Uniontown. Children ages 12 through college/pre-professional level can audition from and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Auditions will be held for both male and female students. Those auditioning are asked to bring a head shot photo. Adults can wear their best animal prints and party the night away at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium tonight at the Zoo’s Summer Safari, an annual fund-raising event with and fore the animals. Gates will open for the over 21 crowd at 6:30 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. The party will last until 11:30 p.m.
Each ticket is worth five drink vouchers, grazing stations from more than 20 of Pittsburgh’s finest restaurants and live entertainment, such as the 1980s cover band Velveeta, who will perform under the Party Tent.
New this year, party goes have the option to purchase a VIP ticket, which ensures reserved parking, VIP lines at bars and a private reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Party Tent that includes photo opportunities with animals, as well as a Best Dressed contest for the guests dressed in animal prints. VIP tickets are limited. Summer Safari is presented by Doc’s Place in Shadyside.
