PITTSBURGH – Patrick and Ellen Daugherty’s artwork will be exhibited at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Alumni Show 2005, until Nov. 29. An opening reception for the artists, who are married, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, which is located at 420 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh. The public is invited. The exhibition will run from until Tuesday, Nov 29.

Ellen and Patrick Daugherty are artists living in Uniontown.

Ellen Daugherty specializes in still life painting, using a unique technique she has developed during the past two years involving layering oil paints over a metallic acrylic underpainting.

She has two new paintings in the exhibition titled “Peonies in Pink Vase” and “Pink Roses, Red Vase.” She works from life and considers her still life portraits of the objects.

Patrick Daugherty’s oil painting is a still life titled, “The Tavern at Nemacolin Woodlands.” The painting was first exhibited at Nemacolin Woodlands and depicts an array of objects, including a bottle, ashtray, glass and napkin painted in a super-realism style.

The couple first met while they were students at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, a day Patrick describes as “The luckiest day of my life.” Ellen agrees.
