The Friends of the Library will meet a 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Members are asked to present ideas for possible fund-raisers for 2006. Refreshments will follow the author’s presentation.

Guest author at library

The Friends of the German-Masontown Library will host local author, W.R. Landman, on Wednesday 2 p.m., upstairs of the library. He will discuss his recently published book, “The Other Side of Local History” Volume 2. This book contains local tales told to Landman throughout the years by Fayette, Greene and surrounding county residents. If you are a history buff or like tales of the unexplained, then this book is for you. Landman will have copies of his book for sale and will gladly sign any copies purchased.

Co-presidents Mary Anne Hritz and Mary Ann Fell invite the public to attend this presentation.

Christmas party

There are only three more days to make reservations for the Friends of the Library Christmas party to be held at Hartley Inn, Carmichaels, at 1 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Reservation forms with more detailed information about the party can be obtained at the library. All reservations with payment must be turned in at the library by Wednesday. For more information, contact either of the party chairmen, Anita Nolle at 724-583-8505 or Donna Parish at 724-583-2812.

Friends of Animals event

A cash bash and Las Vegas night will be held on Nov. 19 at the All Saints Social Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Fayette Friends of Animals. For tickets or more information, contact Janet Fotta at 724-583-1802

Ham and turkey shoot

The Masontown Fish and Game Club is holding a ham and turkey shoot today beginning at noon, (12-gauge only).

Dance set

The Masontown Fish and Game Club will hold a dance featuring “American Band” on Nov. 23. Admission is $4 and food will be provided. Time will be announced next week.

Parent visitation

The Albert Gallatin Board of Education, superintendent, central staff, principals and faculty welcome the public to visit the schools as “American Education Week” is observed.

The Albert Gallatin High School will dismiss students at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. the same day. The middle schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and have parent visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. All elementary schools will dismiss at noon on Thursday and holding visitations from 6 to 8 p.m.

Craft show

The Albert Gallatin senior class will hold an indoor craft show on Saturday in the high school cafeteria. All proceeds from the event, excluding craft vendor sales, will benefit the Class of 2006 Student Fund. As part of the fund-raising efforts, the senior class will sponsor a food/bake sale during the event.

All seniors are asked to make a donation to aid in the fund-raising. Seniors are asked to bring one pack of Coca-Cola products and individually wrapped baked sale items to the event.

Crafters wanted

An indoor holiday craft show will be held on Saturday at the Albert Gallatin Senior High School cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Set-up time for crafters will be 7 to 9 a.m. Exhibitor table space is $25. Electricity will be provided, although it is limited. Exhibitors must provide their own table cover but tables will be provided.

Each exhibitor will be asked to donate one gift, $10 value, for the door prize drawings. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day, with the announcement of the donating exhibitor as well as the winner. All exhibitors are asked not to tear down until the end of the show at 4 p.m.

Table sponsored

The Albert Gallatin Band Boosters will sponsor a table at the holiday craft show at Albert Gallatin Area Senior High School on Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the cafeteria. Available will be Albert Gallatin Colonial spirit clothing and other items for sale.

Kettle drive

Bell ringing for the Salvation Army is being scheduled for the Masontown area. Contact the Rev. Bob Lewis, Salvation Army Kettle captain, at 724-583-9207 to reserve a time and location for a church, group or organization.

Cash bash bingo

A cash bash bingo will be held on Dec. 3 at the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department. Proceeds go the All Saints School and the New Salem VFD. For tickets or more information, contact any All Saints School parent or the school office at 724-583-2141.

Friends of the Cemetery

Friends of the Masontown Cemetery will meet Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Maykuth Funeral Home. Caring for this local landmark is a yearlong process.

Anyone with loved ones in the cemetery or who care about Masontown may consider attending the November meeting.

Project holiday

St. Mary’s Church in Leckrone is taking orders for perogies, noodles and long rolls for the holiday season. The final date to place an order is Nov. 20.

Potato and cheese perogies are $4 per dozen, homemade noodles are $3 per pound and long rolls, nut apricot, poppyseed and pumpkin, will be sold for $7 each.

Pal’s Social Ladies

The Pal’s Social Ladies Auxiliary will hold its Christmas party on Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hartley Inn in Carmichaels. Members are asked to donate $5 toward the party. All reservations or cancellations must be made by Nov. 30 by calling Betsy Kapacko at 724-583-9596.

The auxiliary will not meet in December. Dues must be paid by Dec. 31. Bring dues to the Christmas party or mail to Lois DuPont, 216 Bukovich Farm Road, McClellandtown, Pa., 15478.

Chairman of the January meeting will be Sonja Allison and Mary Dill will donate the $5 gift. If there is a need to cancel due to the weather, cancellations will be announced on WMBS.

Senior Center news

The Masontown Senior Center is always a busy place for residents. Blood pressure screenings and a soup and bake sale were held on Oct. 5. The Site Council meeting and Columbus Day program with Mary Corob and Virginia McCann was held on Oct. 7.

During the month, members played balloon darts, word blast, enjoyed craft projects donated by Charles Lawrence, profits donated to the center, and celebrated Octoberfest. The group had many informative speakers and celebrated Halloween.

The monthly birthday celebration was held on Oct. 31. Celebrants included Catherine Skrobot, Jenny Ebner and Angela Ungurean.

A full month is planned for November with the volunteer dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, skits, programs and fun activities. Senior residents are invited to join.

Exchange Club fruit sale

The Masontown Exchange Club will be selling fruit once again this holiday season. Oranges, grapefruit, mixed oranges and grapefruit, and a trio of oranges, grapefruit and apples will be available. Contact any Exchange Club member or Karl Burchianti at 724-583-7029 for details.

Orders will be accepted until Thursday.
