Museum to feature folk music Saturday
AVELLA – A celebration of mountain folk music with Stephen Seifert is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life, Avella. The museum opens at 6 p.m. for a tour of the village. There is a cost for admission for the tour and concert. A jam session will be held after the concert.
In the hands of a master like Stephen Seifert, the mountain dulcimer can handle not only traditional repertoire but also can also sound great on any style of music.
Seifert has been a featured performer and workshop presenter at many festivals, including the weeklong sessions at Augusta, Swannanoa, Cullowhee and at many more weekend festivals around the country and at the American Music Festival on Tono, Japan, in 2001.
Seifert was the Mid-East Regional Champion for mountain dulcimer at Roscoe Village Dulcimer Days in 1995 and 1997 and was a featured performer there last year.

Locally, he will be teaching a “Learn to Play by Ear” workshop for intermediate mountain dulcimer players at Weatherbury Farm today through Sunday.
Additional concerts will be held on Oct. 29 with Bill Schilling, multi-instrumentalist and folk-style singer; and Nov. 12 with Cindy Harris on autoharp.
