Cal U’s String Ensemble to present fall concert
CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania’s String Ensemble presents its fall concert, “A Tour of Europe,” on the Cal U campus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. The ensemble will perform in the Recital Hall (room 107) at Gallagher Music Center. The concert is free to Cal U students and the general public. A dessert reception will follow in the lobby of Gallagher Hall.

The concert will feature works of great European composers from England, Austria, Russia and France performed on violin and viola.
The ensemble consists of a group of undergraduate students studying a variety of majors from English to math and graphic design to philosophy.
Under the direction of Wagner-Yuan, a graduate student at Cal U, these students come together to share their love of music. Yuan, a McKeesport native, received her degree in violin performance from Duquesne University.
A new organization, the String Ensemble was established in January 2005 through the perseverance of Cal U faculty members including Dr. Ellen Michael, associate professor of music.
The ensemble is supervised by professor Max Gonano, chairman of the music department, who studied at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Michael received her doctorate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Several of the selections include “Rigaudon by Purcell, La Rejouissance” by G. F. Handel, “Air from Suite no. 3” by J. S. Bach, “Sonata Pathetique” by Beethoven, “Te Deum” by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, “Minuet & Trio” by F. Schubert and “Allegretto” by Dmitri Kabalevsky.
