Beesontown Singers to celebrate Mozart at concert

2 min read

The Beesontown Singers will celebrate the musical genius of Mozart in their first concert. The concert will be presented at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in the sanctuary of the Asbury United Methodist Church, which is located at the corner of South Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown.

The public is invited to attend.

There is is no admission fee, but a free-will offering will be accepted.

The Beesontown Singers will commemorate the 250th birthday of the gifted composer with the performance of an all-Mozart program.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on Jan. 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria.

This city and Vienna, the city where he died only 35 years later, are in a constant state of celebration this year.

The cities are spending some 30 million euros on musical commissions, concerts, festivals and academic symposiums in honor of this musical genius.

William Dreucci and Jim Hutchinson, directors of the Beesontown Singers, chose the music of Mozart and this very special anniversary occasion to unveil their new choir.

Dreucci said “an unmistable wit and spirit of jest are evident in most of Mozart’s music, instrumental and vocal.”

The music selected by the Beesontown Singers will demonstrate the many sides of Mozart and his music, from the somber strains of “Ave Verum Corpus” to the almost dance-like qualities of the “Alleluja” and “Exsultate Jubilate.”

The 16-member auditioned choir will be joined by four soloists and a full orchestra in the performance of Mozart’s “Coronation Mass.”

A special arrangment of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” for women’s voices, flute, oboe and piano, will be performed both as a tribute to Mozart’s original melody and his light-hearted nature.
