3 min read

Interested in becoming a member of the Herald-Standard’s Junior Reporter Club? It’s very easy to join. All you have to do is sit down, write a story and send it to the Herald-Standard. It should be typed or printed very clearly.

The stories can be sent to the Herald-Standard, c/o Junior Reporter Club, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401. They can also be e-mailed to begin mo’keefe@heraldstandard.com.

Each story should contain fewer than 100 words.

Youths writing for the first time receive a letter of congratulations from Herald-Standard Executive Editor Mark O’Keefe along with a card making them official members of the club.

Youths getting a second story printed receive another letter from O’Keefe and a coupon for a treat from a local business.

Youths getting more than two stories published will receive a certificate of recognition.

All stories must be accompanied by a phone number for verification.

Return addresses should also be included with the stories. The age range for the columns is 7-12, but stories can be submitted by anyone under 18. For more information call O’Keefe at 724-439-7569.

The topic for April is, “What do you like most about spring? And why do you like it so much.’ Youths can also write about any other topic.

Here are this week’s stories:

What I Like to Do

Aaron Bailey

Uniontown

I like to color, draw, play sports, read, play with my brother, and play games. That is all fun. But I can’t do all that stuff until I am out of school. I also like to play cards, watch the Steelers play, and write for the Junior Reporter Club. That is all cool stuff to do except for school. Sometimes I like to go to school though.

I get bored sometimes when I’m not doing anything. I get to go to Cub Scouts on Wednesday sometimes. That is cool too.

My Favorite Team

Joshua Gilbert

Lemont Furnace

My favorite team is the Steelers because they have a good team, and they have really good players and coaches. Almost every year they do good.

They get a lot of good young players and they put a lot of effort into every game. All of those reasons are the reasons I like the Steelers.

My Dog

Rikki Gallentine

Uniontown

My dog’s name is Harlie. He is black with white on his chest. He is not even a year old and he knocks the door open when it is closed. He is part Rottweiler and black Lab. He has brown eyes. He is my friend April’s favorite of my dogs.

My dog

Lyndsay Molnar

Masontown

My dog’s name is Buddy. He is a Golden Retreiver Collie mix. He is very playful. I like him very much. Sometimes he and my other dog get in fights. His name is Sam. He goes in he woods with me. He is a Beagle. He is also fun and playful.

Wrestling

Schulyer Moncheck

Uniontown

Wrestling is a good sport. It teaches you to stay on your feet. It also teaches you good sportsmanship. It is a winter sport, but some kids, like me, wrestle all year round. You make a lot of friends too. There are lots of good wrestlers. My record in three years is 99 wins and 33 losses. I think more kids should wrestle.
