‘Carnival’ musical to play this weekend in Flatwoods

Broadway began to turn to the movies for its musicals in the late 1950s and early 1960s. “Carnival” was a theatrical version of “Lili,” the 1953 film, which starred Leslie Caron as an orphan who joins a European sideshow and finds love with a disabled puppeteer. The main theme was distinctly different from the one in the movie, “Hi Lili, Hi Lili, Hi Lo,” which was a tremendous hit. The new solution was “Love Makes the World Go Round,” which proved to be equally popular.
Cast as Lili at Flatwoods is Kristen Tunney of Brownsville.
Playing the disabled puppeteer will be Michael Rohlf of Brownsville. Assisting Michael Rohlf as Jacqout, will be his son Jonathan Rohlf, who most recently performed with the Pittsburgh CLO in “Grease.” Playing the Incomparable Rosalie will be Aylssa Hensel of Connellsville. Alyssa has been seen on various local stages and also takes classes at the CLO Academy in Pittsburgh.
The Magician, Marco the Magnificent, is being played by Rob Ross who will amaze the audience with several illusions and magic tricks.
The owner of the carnival, Mr. B.F. Schelegel, will be played by Ernest W. Watson of Brownsville.
Dr. Glass and the Aerialist will be performed by Robert Mitchell of Connellsville. The puppets will be performed by Lexie Rohlf (Brownsville) as Carrot Top the Clown; Scott Watson (Vanderbilt) as Horrible Henry the Walrus; Dimitri Lazzarri (Charleroi) as Renardo the Fox, and Nancy Flinn (Donora) as Marquerite the Opera Star. Other performers include: Jonni and Shawn George, Wanda Wokulick , Kaitlin Clancey, Kelly Tunney, Laurie Watson
