CONNELLSVILLE – Jeff Monahan, president of 72nd St. Films, announced that actor David Thornton, who portrays Lionel Granger on the television hit series “Law and Order SVU” will star in the locally produced film, “Small Time Crime.” “We’re delighted to have such an accomplished actor as David join the cast of ‘Small Time Crime.’ We’ve acted together before and co-wrote a screenplay called ‘Corpsing’ – about the life in an inter-city morgue,” Monahan said.

Thornton’s credits include lead and supporting roles in many films including “Home Alone 3” with Scarlett Johansson, “John Q” with Denzell Washington, “The Notebook” with James Garner and “A Civil Action” with John Travolta.

He will soon be seen in the feature film, “Alpha Dog,” with Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone. Actor Tom Atkins also has been cast. Atkins has been in many films and television shows, including “The Fog,” “Halloween III,” “Escape from New York” and “Lethal Weapon.”

Tom Savini will be playing one of the screen’s nastiest villains in the movie. Savini, one of the industry’s most famous make-up and special effects artists, also has performed in more than 30 films and just completed work on the new Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriquez film, “Grind House.”

“Small Time Crime” is about a dying bank robber who returns to his hometown to try to reconnect with his parents, his best friend and the only girl he ever loved. But what is meant to be a fond farewell turns into a nightmare – and one last hope of redemption.

“It is a crime drama, but there’s a very strong romantic core to it, as well as some pretty dark humor,” Monahan said. “The story focuses on the bank robber and how he’s seeking a way to pay for all of the nasty stuff he has done in his life.”

Monahan, a Connellsville native, has written two other feature-length films – “Hits,” starring Martin Sheen and “One Way Out” starring Michael Ironside. Anyone interested in receiving an investment proposal should call 72nd St. Films at 724-570-9999 or Max House at 724-628-4811.
