Speaker to inspire local church group
Standing in the Gap will present “One Nation Under God” with Ranger Gary Horton, evangelist and motivational speaker at 7 p.m. today at the Connellsville Street Church of Christ, 519 Connellsville St., Uniontown. Using humor, honesty and a hard-hitting approach, Horton has entertained and inspired young audiences in more than 8,000 high school and junior high school assemblies across the United States since 1978.
Horton never fails to leave his audience with a rekindled appreciation of America’s greatness and a renewed dedication to the principles upon which this country was founded.
An understanding of the traditional values that forged this country and made it great is the heart of Horton’s presentation.
A Florida native who resides in Alabama, Horton graduated from Miami Christian College. During college and after graduation, he directed a seven-state juvenile rehabilitation program.
He also served as co-director of a high school assembly program designed to help young people deal with their problems.
His interest in troubled youth eventually led him to work with juveniles within the Florida state prison system.
Horton also served with the elite Army Airborne Rangers. After leaving the military service, Horton renewed his commitment to young people by dedicating his time and talents to creating the successful “American Freedom Assembly,” which brings pride, hope and optimism to a generation in short supply.
To Horton, the phrase “One Nation Under God” is more than simply words in the pledge of allegiance. Underlying those words is Horton’s understanding of his personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ, his son, and how such a relationship can motivate each of us to accomplish great things.
His call for personal responsibility and accountability is a message all people need to hear.
