Interested in becoming a member of the Herald-Standard’s Junior Reporter Club? It’s very easy to join. All you have to do is sit down, write a story and send it to the Herald-Standard. It should be typed or printed very clearly.

The stories can be sent to the Herald-Standard, c/o Junior Reporter Club, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401.

They can also be e-mailed to begin mo’keefe@heraldstandard.com.

Each story should contain fewer than 100 words.

Youths writing for the first time receive a letter of congratulations from Herald-Standard Executive Editor Mark O’Keefe along with a card making them official members of the club.

Youths getting a second story printed receive another letter from O’Keefe and a coupon for a treat from a local business.

Youths getting more than two stories published will receive a certificate of recognition.

All stories must be accompanied by a phone number for verification.

Return addresses should also be included with the stories. The age range for the columns is 7-12, but stories can be submitted by anyone under 18. For more information call O’Keefe at 724-439-7569.

The topic for June is, “What do you like most about summer? And why do you like it so much.’ Youths can also write about any other topic.

Here are this week’s stories:

Art

Haley Sutton

Smithfield

Art is fun to do. If you look around, art is all around you. You can make art too. Try it.

The Kings of Connellsville

Andrew Marano

Fairchance

During the summer I go to my friend’s gramdma and pap King’s house. Me, Robbie, Seth and their mom, Amy, have a lot of fun there. We run around the field and ride in the trailer of the lawn mower. They treat me really, really good. Once we went for a walk on the bike trail to the river. And that is the Kings of Connellsville

My dog Maddie

Tyler Greathouse

Fairchance

One day three years ago, I came home from school and there was a surprise. A dog. My dog Maddie. My parents went to the dog pound that day and brought her home. My dad said that when they walked up the rows of kennels all of the dogs barked and jumped around, but Maddie didn’t. She just sat there and looked at them with her big brown eyes. She’s the best dog ever. She’s a cutie. Maddie was the best surprise I ever got. She’s a little brown and black sweetheart with a beard and she’s silky soft.

My favorite teacher

Courtney Glover

Hibbs

My favorite teacher is Ms. Woods. She’s an awesome teacher. Her 10th period class was so much fun. She knows how to make English class fun. She makes jokes but can be serious. She is great. I don’t know any other way to describe her other than to say she’s wonderful. I love her and her class.
