The Joe Negri Trio will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday during the Storey Square Summer Concert Series in Uniontown. World Importing will provide a light dinner for a small cost.

Negri is one of the most recognized names in Pittsburgh music circles and one of the finest jazz guitarists in the country.

A musical prodigy at age 4, Negri was touring nationally by age 16. He has performed with such diverse performers as Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, Michael Feinstein, Wynton, Branford and Ellis Marsalis and YoYo Ma.

With a career spanning several decades, he has performed in every aspect of the music business. He appears frequently as a guest with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops with Marvin Hamlish. He is featured on the PSO’s recording “Cinema Serendae” with Ishtak Pearlman and John Williams.

Negri served as musical director at WTAE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, for more than 20 years. While at WTAE, he produced and performed on several award-winning television programs. His frequent appearances as Handyman Negri on the PBS “Mister Rogers Neighborhood” show have provided Negri with nationwide television exposure. He has been a key perform on that show from its inception.

During his career, he also has distinguished himself as a composer. His composition “The Crossing” was premiered by the River City Brass Band and his jazz choral work “The Mass of Hope” has received critical and artistic acclaim.

Negri continues to lead a very active life as a musician. He now has several CDs to his credit. They include “The Mass of Hope” and a Brazilian jazz CD titled “Afternoon in Rio.” He has recently added a holiday CD “Guitars for Christmas” and his latest studio venture “Uptown Elegance” is now available nationally and locally.

He also shares his knowledge and experience of jazz guitar through his teaching at Pitt, Duquesne and his alma mater, Carnegie Mellon.

He has received numerous awards and honors.

This past year, Duquesne University presented Negri with an honorary doctorate in music – an award that he really cherishes.

He continues to live in Pittsburgh with his wife Joni. The couple has three daughters and three granddaughters.

No alcohol will be permitted during the Storey Square Summer Concert Series.
