Terri and Gary Humbert will celebrate their wedding anniversary on Monday.

Reminders

– Smock Historical Society is holding a holiday roll sale. Orders for nut, apricot, prune or poppy seed rolls are to be in by April 1. Pick-up date is April 8. All rolls are $7 each and may be placed by calling Rita at 724-677-2415.

– The band will hold a hoagie sale on April 8. Hoagies are $5.

– Special Book Club discussion and meet Kelly Braffet, the author of “Josie and Jack,” is on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

– St. John’s Altar Society communion is today at the 8:30 a.m. Mass. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 a.m. The lectors for this Mass are Toni Rabatin and Sue Daniels. Altar Society meeting is on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the social center.

– Frazier band spaghetti dinner at the Sons of Italy is set for April 20 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Children (under 10) are $3, adults are $6. Bring containers for take out.

– Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Cash Bash and Las Vegas Night at the Perryopolis Fire Hall is on April 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for a two-number ticket and can be purchased from any of your local firefighters. Refreshments are provided.

– Brownfield Community Center Flea Market is on April 29. Proceeds benefit the Brownfield Center’s library. Donations may be made at any time. For pickup of donated items, call 724-529-2930 or 724-529-2571.

– Sue Daniels will do Reiki on the second and fourth Fridays from noon until 4 p.m. This is a free community service, a healing method to help re-balance the body’s natural rhythm and energy flow. Call Sue at 724-736-4076 for more information.

Soup and sandwich

St. Nicholas Church will hold a homemade soup and sandwich lunch today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church Social Hall. A bowl of homemade soup, a sandwich, a jumbo cookie or brownie and a beverage is $5. There will be three soups and two sandwich varieties to choose from. Eat in and take out is available (please bring containers capable of holding hot liquid). Proceeds benefit the St. Nicholas Renovation Fund.

Recycle day

Today is Recycle Day in Perryopolis Borough. Residents may take their old cans, glass, plastic, aluminum and paper to the borough garage between 10 a.m. and noon. Borough representatives Wayne and Garth will be there to assist with bundles and bags.

Township cleanup

Perry Township spring cleanup day will be held on April 20 and 21. Put items in the same place as the garbage can on collection day.

Branches and lawn refuse should be bundled or bagged. As always, the spring cleanup crew cannot take tires, paint, batteries and other toxic items.

Perryopolis area baseball

The Perryopolis area baseball organization will meet today at 5:30 p.m. in the borough building. Anyone interested in Perry baseball is invited to attend.

Rocks & Rolls

On March 3 and 5, Rocks & Rolls competed in their first national competition in Washington, D.C., and was selected as one of the two best squads for their divisions at nationals.

Girls competing were: Kaley Barota, Keana Bertocci, Kayla Gilmore, Courteney Protos, Brooke Protos, Amber Jamison, Rachael Lonce, Morgan Eckman, Allie Chuboy, Anna Lemley, Anna Lazar, Alicia Mancuso, Alicia Twigg, Chandler Twigg, Jamie Mucciolo, Leigh Mucciolo, Kayla Twigg, Jessica Russell, Kristina Steban and Laurel Krajcel.

The following girls were selected to perform at the football pro-game in Hawaii: Leah Muccioli, Courteney Protos, Kayla Twigg, Chandler Twigg, Anna Lemley, Kristina Steban, Rebekah Lonce, Rachael Lonce, Angelina Rendina, Amber Jamison and Kayra Gilmore.

The All-stars have already selected their 2006-07 goals, which are to bid and attend cheerleading nationals at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Lenten services

Community Lenten services include the following:

Harmony Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, noon; March 29, noon, First Christian Church; and April 5, to be announced.

St John’s Altar Society

St. John’s Altar Society will have fish sandwiches for sale each Friday during Lent with the exception of Good Friday. Orders for sandwiches, pierogies and side dishes may be placed by calling 724-736-2936 or 724-736-4032.

Pierogies are $4 per dozen. Fish sandwiches are $4. Orders must be placed in advance. Bring containers. To order on Fridays (only), call 724-736-2301.

Moose Golf Club

Last Sunday, the Moose Golf Club held its first meeting of the season with Bull Moose Buddy Petrosky chairing. Helping to dispense the new rules were Ted Lytle and Terry Harkins. To date, there are 36 possible entries, and room for a few more If anyone is interested in joining this group of honest, fun-loving, and helpful gents, feel free to call the Moose Lodge and apply.

There are some accomplished golfers who will help other golfers. One of note is Justin Hayes, the son of the famous Mike Hayes, Penn State champion, who has the distinction of birding the 6th hole, a feat heretofore unheard of. His veracity is still to be certified. Bill Hill and Robert Jarabeck are also excellent teachers. All monies should be in before March 26.
