2 min read

HOPWOOD – The seventh annual Hopwood Village Parade celebrating the National Road Festival will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 20. The parade will begin at the National City Bank and proceed on Route 40 to the Bennington Road intersection.

AMVETS Post 103 color guard will lead the marchers, which will include the Laurel Highlands Senior High Board Band, Laurel Highlands Junior High School Band, Hutchinson School students, Fayette County Canine Search and Rescue, Boy Scouts, HARC Baseball League team members, Laurel Highlands Senior High School students and other community organizations. Antique cars will be featured.

The ceremony crowning the village royalty will be held at 11 a.m. on the National City Bank lawn area.

Al and Margaret Botti will be honored as Mr. and Mrs. Hopwood 2006.

The parade and crowning are among several activities in the village.

The wagon train will stop for lunch in the grassy area at the Hopwood Fitness Center. Food, sidewalk sales and the annual Hopwood Garden Center plant sale will highlight the day’s events.

Adrian’s Market will sponsor a “first” for the area – a chipped ham-eating contest. It is modeled after the annual hot dog eating contest on Coney Island.

At 3 p.m., a fishing derby for children age 12 and under will take place at the South Union Township Recreation Area at Hutchinson.

Hutchinson Run is the stream at the park. Prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served. Participants must bring their own fishing gear.

An old-time doubleheader baseball game will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the ball field at South Union Township Recreation Park at Hutchinson. The Laurel Highlands Senior High School Jazz Band will entertain between games.
