State Theatre to mark UFO anniversary with Kecksburg documentary

3 min read

The beginning of the modern UFO era is often traced back to June 24, 1947, when businessman Kenneth Arnold sighted “a formation of very bright objects” while flying over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Now 59 years later, on the very same date – June 24, at 7 p.m., the State Theatre in Uniontown will show the award-winning documentary “Kecksburg – The Untold Story” with commentary and a question-and-answer session with Stan Gordon.

Gordon, the producer of the documentary and a Greensburg resident, is an internationally known UFO and Big Foot researcher.

The documentary is about the Dec. 9, 1965, event that occurred in Westmoreland County that remains controversial now 41 years later. It is reported that many people that night saw a bright object moving across the sky that crashed into nearby woods. Witnesses claimed to have seen a large metallic acorn-shaped object with strange hieroglyphics markings semi-buried in the ground. Military personnel who soon arrived on the scene reportedly recovered the object. The official explanation of a meteor in the sky conflicts with numerous eyewitness accounts.

“Many of the key witnesses of the sighting are getting up in years. Some are not in good health. The documentary was an opportunity for those involved to tell first-hand what occurred,” Gordon said.

According to his Web site www.stangordon.com, since 1965, Stan has been conducting on-scene investigations of mysterious encounters in Pennsylvania.

He has been involved with the examination of thousands of UFO and other strange reports from across the Keystone State. During the late 1960s, Stan acted as a telephone report sighting coordinator for the UFO Research Institute of Pittsburgh.

Internationally recognized as an authority on the subject of the UFO and Bigfoot phenomena, he gained prominence from his first hand investigation into the well-remembered 1973 Bigfoot/UFO series of sightings and encounters, which occurred in Pennsylvania. This outbreak brought worldwide attention to the subject and was a major news story in the media for several weeks.

“We are excited to host Stan Gordon at the State Theatre. Anyone interested in what happened at Kecksburg or fans of science fiction will not want to miss this one,” said Marty Schiff, executive director of the State Theatre.

Tickets are available by calling the State Theatre at 724-439-3424 or toll free at 1-800 397-2554. The theater is located at 27 E. Main Street, Uniontown.

Signed copies of “Kecksburg – The Untold Story” will be available in DVD and VHS format after the presentation.
