Oct. 8, 2006 Band Boosters
The Albert Gallatin High School Band Boosters will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the high school library. All parents/ guardians of band members are urged to attend.
Pumpkin festival
The Asbury United Methodist Church will hold its 17th annual craft show and pumpkin festival on Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The church is located at 20 Dunbar St., Uniontown. Admission is 50 cents and door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. A light lunch will be available as well as United Methodist Women’s homemade pumpkin pies.
More than 35 crafters will be offering woodcrafts, ceramics, sewn items, floral arrangement and more.
Turkey bingo
The Pal’s Club Social Ladies Auxiliary will hold a turkey bingo on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Members are reminded to donate grocery items and a $5 craft item or gift. Cantata practice
The Masontown Ecumenical Choir is practicing on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Fairview Church of the Brethren for this year’s Christmas concert. Anyone from the area who has a desire to sing with the choir is invited to come to the practice. Gail Diamond will again be the director.
Bakeless bake sale
The Friends of the German-Masontown Library are holding a bakeless bake sale during the month of October. Monetary donations are being accepted. Checks may be made payable to: Friends of the German-Masontown Library and can be sent to either Mary Ann Fell, 27 S. Water St., or Mary Ann Hritz, 232 W. Cross Ave., both Masontown, PA 15461.
Big breakfast
The Holy Name Society and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Church in Leckrone will sponsor a “Big Breakfast” sale of pancakes, sausage, eggs and hash browns on Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the social hall.
Rosary society
The Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Church, Leckrone, will hold a turkey bingo in the social hall on Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Senior Center
Seniors braved the heat and attended Senior Day at the Fayette County Fair and received a second-place ribbon for the most attending. Mary Springer won third place in the leg contest and Agnes Kormanik won a cake in the cakewalk. Everyone received a small gift of a rain hat, a water bottle and ice cream treat. Mary Springer also participated in the spelling bee.
Dartball began in September and Virginia McCann led the Bible Trivia. A food distribution was held during the month and Dr. Bartlett took blood pressures. Carol Quarrick spoke on shingles and an appreciation dinner was held for the dartball players with 50 people attending. Entertainment was provided by the Grandma Honeys. Shirley Rhodes was the only birthday celebrant for the month, and she received a lottery ticket. New members and visitors are welcome to visit the Masontown Senior Center and join in the fun.
Cross country
The 2006 Albert Gallatin cross-country championship will be held for grades four through eight on Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. at the Albert Gallatin High School.
Individual ribbons will be given to the top 10 winners and team trophies will be awarded to the first-place male and female teams. The schedule for Oct. 25 will be as follows: 5 p.m., walk the course; 5:30, boys grade 4 and 5; 5:45, girls grade 4 and 5; 6 p.m., girls middle school; and 6:20 p.m., boys middle school.
Students must be present at 5 p.m. to walk the course.
Memorial Mass
The All Saints Christian Mothers will hold a memorial Mass on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the school cafeteria following the service.
Friends of Library
The Friends of the German-Masontown Library will meet on Oct. 18 at noon in the library. Many things will be discussed such as the bakeless bake sale that is underway, the upcoming Christmas party and the Christmas nursing home project.
Refreshments provided by Stephanie Balik, Mary Anne Hritz, Dora Jean Lavery and Anita Nolle will be served following the meeting.
