Light of Hope
The Light of Hope Campaign is an initiative to bring to light several facts about domestic violence. Domestic violence does not discriminate; it affects people from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religious beliefs, educational background, income or sexual orientation. No single form of violence is more legitimate than another; they all damage the victim. The cycle of violence must be stopped.
“By taking a stand, we as a community can ‘break the chain of abuse’ and ‘give hope and assist in the healing process’ of those who have been victims. We can do this by giving a voice to the invisible pain suffered by the victims of violence. Together, we can make a difference,” said a spokesman with the Fayette County Domestic Violence Services office.
What can you do to help?
“You can voice your opposition to domestic violence and violence in general. You can volunteer your services by contacting Domestic Violence Services of Fayette County 724-437-2530. You can donate gently used clothing and household goods to be used by displaced families who have been victimized by violence. You can also contribute monetarily and become a member of the Tree of Hope.”
To become a member of the Tree of Hope, simply donate $74 (or more) to the Domestic Violence Services Inc. of Fayette County.
The donor may alternately choose to place a name in the tree in honor of another individual. Anonymous donations will also be accepted.
Initially, the Tree of Hope will be displayed in the offices of the Greater Uniontown Chamber of Commerce, 65 Main St., Uniontown. It can also be found at the DVS Web site, http://dvsfayette.org/.
Throughout the month of October, a light will burn in the window of the Chamber of Commerce to remind everyone of the hope that a single light can bring to a victim of domestic violence.
If you are a victim of domestic violence, please call our confidential hotline 724-439-9500 or visit our Web site http://dvsfayette.org/.
