local “Oils and Acrylics: The Painter’s Experience,” a five-day workshop, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington. The workshop is offered for adults and self-motivated young adults. All levels, styles and philosophies will be featured. There is a tuition cost. Students must provide their own materials. Christian Singles Fellowship of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church will offer a retreat for singles today through Monday. The 33rd annual retreat will take place at the Jumonville Camp & Retreat Center near Hopwood. The speaker will be Holly Virden, a single author who understands the challenges facing singles in today’s society. Those who are single, separated, divorced or widowed are invited to attend. The annual Labor Day spaghetti dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ohiopyle Stewart Community Center. The menu will consist of all-you-can-eat spaghetti, tossed salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage.

The Fayette County Historical Society and Experience Works will hold a “Back in Time” day at the Searights Toll House Museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The event will feature old-time spinners, museum guides dressed in period costumes and carriage rides. Hot dogs, sausages and beverages will be available. Entertainment will be provided. A fall craft show will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Granny’s Treasures, 7268 National Pike, just past the Searights Tollhouse. Locally made crafters will be featured. Food will be served.

Classic Car Cruise will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Arctic Delite on Route 51 about three miles north of Uniontown. The event will feature trophies, oldies, door prizes and a Chinese auction. There is a vehicle registration fee. Proceeds will benefit Domestic Violence Services. A Labor Day Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday in the Scottdale Gazebo, located at the corner of Pittsburgh and Spring streets. Country music will be presented Saturday at the Sagebrush Round-Up on Bunner Ridge near Fairmont, W.Va. Featured acts will include Ray Hileman & The Wheels of Country, Jim Stempie & Country Pride and Phillip Love & The Commissioners. Ray Hileman and his band will play for the open stage from 6 to 7 p.m. There is an admission charge. Children under 12 are admitted free. The music starts at 6 p.m. and continues until 10:30 or 11 p.m. The Sagebrush Round-Up is located on Bunner Ridge near Fairmont, W.Va., six miles east of Interstate 79 at Exit 139. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. The event will feature 500 costumed participants from 15 states in more than 200 exhibit booths. Face painting, balloon animals, Kidders & Kritters petting zoo and Wild World of Animals Show will be featured Saturday and Sunday. The event will include the 11th Pennsylvania Civil War military encampment, two Civil War string bands and homemade food. Free on-site parking will be available. The Nathaniel Greene Historical Foundation of Greensboro is planning the first annual “Art Blast on the Mon” today and Saturday. A Creative Communities Art Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. An Art Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Log Cabin on Front Street and other locations throughout the town. An Everyman’s Art Show will be held at the Greensboro Fire Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2. Prizes will be awarded. The top prize to be awarded is $300. The foundation is searching for artists and craftsmen, such as blacksmiths, weavers, stained-glass artists, potters, painters, jewelry crafters and others. Soldiers & Sailors National Military Museum & Memorial, 4141 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, will hold the grand opening today for the newest exhibit titled “Beyond the Battlefield.” The evening will include a wine and cheese reception along with a short presentation by Ron Gancas, president and chief executive officer, as well as other government officials to Specialist James Stuck who is featured in the exhibit for the loss of his leg during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Hoedown round and square dancing, slow dancing, polkas, line dancing and clogging will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Waynesburg Moose. Dave Dahl will provide music and figure calling.
