Junior Reporter Club

3 min read

Interested in becoming a member of the Herald-Standard’s Junior Reporter Club? It’s very easy to join. All you have to do is sit down, write a story and send it to the Herald-Standard. It should be typed or printed very clearly.

The stories can be sent to the Herald-Standard, c/o Junior Reporter Club, 8-18 E. Church St., Uniontown, Pa. 15401.

They can also be e-mailed to begin mo’keefe@heraldstandard.com.

Each story should contain fewer than 100 words.

Youths writing for the first time receive a letter of congratulations from Herald-Standard Executive Editor Mark O’Keefe along with a card making them official members of the club.

Youths getting a second story printed receive another letter from O’Keefe and a coupon for a treat from a local business.

Youths getting more than two stories published will receive a certificate of recognition.

All stories must be accompanied by a phone number for verification.

Return addresses should also be included with the stories. The age range for the columns is 7-12, but stories can be submitted by anyone under 18. For more information call O’Keefe at 724-439-7569.

The topic for this month is, “What did you do this summer?” Youths can also write about other topics.

Here are this week’s stories:

How I spent my summer

Anna Grace Christopher

Uniontown

This summer is good because we went to Idlewild two times, and we went swimming a lot. We got to play with our friends and go over their houses. We also went to a lot of birthday parties, and we got to see our cousins, grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts and uncles.

My dog Jazzie

Allie Desko

McClellandtown

My dog is a Chihuahua and her name is Jazzie. We got her about three years ago, when I was in the third or fourth grade. I came home from school and I walked into my parent’s room and there was a small dog cage. It had a new puppy! I couldn’t believe she was mine. From that day forward, Jazzie has been the best dog anyone could ever ask for. I’m glad my mom got her for me. Jazzie is a blessing.

Pizza Party

Katie and Jimm Preamble

Uniontown

On Aug. 17, we were invited to the Herald-Standard with all the other Junior Reporters. We ate pizza and got to see a lot of people from the newspaper. We met Val Laub, Karen Tweardy, Mark O’Keefe and Al Sloan. We saw how the newspaper was printed. We had a great time and hope to come back again.
