Snap to bring music to Uniontown festival

2 min read

Snap, a Uniontown-based rhythm and blues band, will perform Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Arts in the City festival in Uniontown. “We try to mix it up,” said leader and co-founder Fred Adams. “Besides R&B, we can play anything from big band and country classics to polkas. SNAP as a band has been together since 1987, and some of us have been playing together a lot longer than that,” he added. “As far back as the 1960s, Barry, Jack and I played together in the Critters and other bands.”

Snap features Don Ganoe on keyboards and vocals, Barry Chambers on drums, Jeremy Kendall on bass, Fred Adams on guitar, Jack Breakiron on tenor sax, Brian Chambers on trombone, Mike Surovchak on trumpet and Greg Formentelli on alto, soprano, tenor, and baritone sax.

Like Adams, drummer Barry Chambers and tenor saxophonist Jack Breakiron are also long-term veterans of the local music scene.

The band features its own blend of musical styles putting a modern twist to traditional soul music. The four-piece horn section distinguishes them from most local groups.

“The traditional lounge band usually has guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and a lead singer,” Adams said.

“If the band has a horn, it’s usually by itself and used for solos and accents,” he continued.

“We have an alto and tenor sax, trumpet and trombone to allow a full range of sound and tone.,” he added. “People like the live horns. It’s a world apart from horn riffs played on a synthesizer.”
