ZEN to bring jam music to Arts in the City event

2 min read

ZEN, a band based in Elkins, W.Va., will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, during the Arts in the City festivities. The scheduled performance will feature a variety of musical styles. Although well known as a jam band in the Mid-Atlantic region, ZEN will offer an eclectic array of musical interpretations – from Appalachian folk, bluegrass, alternative country to ’80s rock.

ZEN is most noted for its recent attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest on-going concert at Snowshoe Mountain Resort this past July 4 weekend. The group attempted to play non-stop for 27 hours, breaking the 26-hour record held by an Australian group. The “All Together” Jam Marathon began at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, July 1, and continued until 11 a.m. Sunday morning, July 2. The band set a 20-hour record.

Although the group did not overtake the longest concert Guinness record, they did break the longest jam recorded by a jam band by playing for 20 hours straight. The previous record was seven hours and 45 minutes by the group, Phish.

Named the “All Together” Jam Marathon from their new CD, proceeds from the sale of CDs and merchandise were donated to New Orleans musicians. ZEN has played the Mid-Atlantic region for the past five years and this will mark the band’s second appearance in the Uniontown area. Other notable concerts include playing main stage at festivals headlining jam band greats Bob Weir of the Greatful Dead with Ratdog, Blues Traveler, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, The String Cheese Incident, Sam Bush and Keller Williams.

The group has also opened for Little Feat.
