Oktoberfest to bring German food, music to Herald-Standard Pavilion

2 min read

FARMINGTON – Once again this year, the sounds of German music and whiffs of German food will permeate the mountains at the Herald-Standard Pavilion at the Woodland Zoo in Farmington. This year, the event is scheduled to run for three days – Friday through Sunday, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

The hours for each day will vary with the kick off from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.

The final day will run from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.

Popular musical performers will return to supply a happy German-style atmosphere.

“The mountain area lends itself so well to a German atmosphere,” said Sonny Herring, owner of the Woodland Zoo.

“People enjoy the scenery as they listen to the German music and eat the various choices of food,” Herring continued.

Although there is an admission fee to enter the Oktoberfest, there is a huge free parking area on the grounds.

The Augsburg German Band is a local favorite that has played at all of the Oktoberfest events at the pavilion. The band will be playing at various times all three days during the event.

The first year the Oktoberfest was held at Woodland Zoo, the Men’s Mannerchor featuring men from the Bruderhof community, was an instant success as they sang traditional folk songs that brought tremendous satisfaction to the audience.

The Mannerchor will perform again this year.

The delightful individual entertainer “The Mad Bavarian” will be strolling during the event.

The distributor of Warsteiner German Beer from Ohio will once again be an attraction for the crowd.

Additionally, there will be a beer belly contest, a chain saw carving demonstration, fine food booths, grape stomping and a wine tasting from the mountain area Christian W. Klay winery.
