Pioneer Days to showcase history of Perryopolis
PERRYOPOLIS – Pioneer Days will be held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 6-8, in historic Perryopolis, the town designed by George Washington. Perryopolis features many historic sites.
They include:
– Washington’s Mill, one of the first water-driven mills equipped with burr millstones erected for George Washington in 1774-1775.
– The Old State Bank, built in 1814 and the first bank west of the Allegheny Mountain Range.
– The Fulling Mill, built around 1790, which stands on Strawn Road. Wool cloth was taken here by the settlers for dying, softening and shrinking.
– The Gue House, the Bake Shop, the Blacksmith Shop and the Cemetery.
– The Bake Shop, built around 1790, which is located next to the mill site. Its underground brick oven was used to bake bread for the early settlers.
– The Blacksmith Shop, the traditional loafing place for the men and boys of the town.
– The Cemetery, the final resting place of some of the town’s early settlers. It contains stones dating from 1832.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Friday, Oct. 6
– 7 to 10 p.m., Crazy Cowboys Band. Food and refreshments will be available.
Saturday, Oct. 7
– 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Mon Valley Community Band, Fisher Stage.
– 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Civil War Re-enactment.
– 1:45 to 3:45 p.m., Wash House Band, Fisher Stage.
– 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., Sound Foundation, Fisher Stage.
– 4:45 to 7 p.m., Wash House Band, Fisher Stage.
– 7 p.m., Civil War Ball, Fisher Stage.
In the event of inclement weather, the location of the ball will be changed to the Sons of Italy Lodge.
Sunday, Oct. 8
– 8 a.m. to noon, Pancake Breakfast, Sampey Park Pavilion.
– 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Girls in Black Hats, Sampey Park Pavilion.
– 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Civil War Re-enactment.
– 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Rock ‘n’ Roll, Fisher Stage.
– 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Rostraver Dance Academy, Fisher Stage.
– 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Bobby Reed and Susan Lee, Sampey Park Pavilion.
The Crab Tree Bottom Band will perform Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8, at Cooper Stage.
