Uniontown’s first walking Advent Church Tour is slated for Sunday, Dec. 10, with eight downtown churches participating. Tour participants will have the opportunity to see the beauty of the church sanctuaries, each decorated for the approaching Christmas celebration and to hear music of the season as presented by the various church music ministries.

The tour is scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. The eight participating churches, in their order on the tour, will be as follows: St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Trinity United Presbyterian Church, St. Peter’s Church, Great Bethel Baptist Church, Asbury United Methodist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, Central Christian Church and St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A tour spokesperson commented, “Even though the tour is essentially a walking tour, participants can choose to drive the tour route or to pick up the tour at any given point. A schedule announcing the times for each church will be available two weeks before the tour. This is a wonderful opportunity for folks to enjoy the unique architectural features of our downtown church buildings and to do so at the most beautiful time of the year. They’ll certainly want to bring their cameras along.”

In addition to special music, each church will have a greeter on hand to point out historic and architectural highlights. Most churches will also provide some type of holiday refreshments. A free-will offering will be accepted for a local charity, which will be announced at a later date.

The tour will end at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 5:30 p.m. The area’s newest choral group, the Beesontown Singers, will give an Advent concert at 6:30 p.m. that evening at St. Paul’s.

A complete time schedule for the tour will be announced in November and copies of the schedule will be available at each of the participating churches. A tour guide will keep the tour moving and on schedule from beginning to end.
