Garletts returns to play organ recital at St. Paul’s church
Gary P. Garletts, former director of music and organist at Uniontown’s Trinity United Presbyterian Church, will present an organ recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uniontown. Garletts has worked as a professional musician for more than 25 years. He is currently director of music at Ardmore Presbyterian Church in the Philadelphia suburbs. Active as an organist, conductor, accompanist, teacher and administrator, he is the artistic director of the Chester County Choral Society and a staff accompanist at West Chester University.
He earned a bachelor’s of music degree at Oberlin College and a master’s music degree at Duquesne University. He studied organ with Haskell Thomson and Ann Labounsky. As an associate of the American Guild of Organists, he has served the Guild in various capacities, including Coordinator for the Philadelphia Regional Exams Center and co-director of “A Pipe Organ Encounter,” a music camp for teens. Besides favorite organ classics, Garletts will perform beloved hymn tunes on the St. Paul’s Schantz pipe organ. He most recently presented a recital at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. The public is invited. A free-will offering will be accepted. St. Paul’s is located at 71 N. Gallatin Ave. and is handicapped accessible.
