Lardin House to present Jazz in the Grass Festival
MASONTOWN – The Lardin House Inn on Route 21 in Masontown will present a Jazz in the Grass Festival on Sunday as a tribute to its former owner Bernie Glad. Glad was a jazz fan, inviting many jazz musicians and groups to play at his restaurant over the years. Two of the many artists who performed at the Lardin House were legendary local musicians Harold Betters and Bobby Reed, and they will be both be playing Sunday. Betters is known world wide for his trombone playing, performing over the years with the likes of Louie Armstrong, Ray Charles and Ramsey Lewis. An organist, Reed can play many different types of music, but he especially loves performing jazz.
Reed said he fell in love at an early age with the organ playing of the great Jimmy Smith and has tried to play his own type of jazz whenever possible.
The concert will start at noon with a performance by keyboard player Peter Pasqua. He will be followed by Reed from 1 to 3 p.m. Quiet Storm, a very popular jazz funk band, made up of local musicians, will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. Betters will then close out the show with a performance from 5 to 7 p.m. Call 724-583-8310.
