West Overton Museums to open for season
SCOTTDALE – West Overton Museums will officially open for the 79th season from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Crafters, food vendors, period demonstrations and a number of special activities will be featured throughout the day. The Remnants, a dulcimer group, will give concerts at 1 and 4 p.m.
West Overton Village is the only intact pre-civil war rural industrial village in the state and one of only two in the entire country.
The site features a 5 and 1/2 story Old Farm Distillery/Grist Mill built in 1859, the largest brick barn in Pennsylvania, the Abraham Overholt mansion and the home where industrialist Henry Clay Frick was born.
Museum hours for the season are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. There are admission fees for adults, senior citizens and children 6 to 11. Children under 6 years of age are admitted free. Yearly individual and family memberships are available. West Overton Museums is located on Route 819 between Scottdale and Mount Pleasant.
