Library update

Frazier Community Library needs friends.

The annual Friends of the Library membership campaign is now in progress.

Friends are aware, concerned, generous and responsible; aware of the importance of public libraries; concerned about the Community Library’s needs; generous in giving; and personally responsible for the well-being of the library. The annual family/individual membership is $25 and a business membership is $40. Call the library at 724-736-8480, or stop by for a membership form and become a Frazier Friend of the Library.

Calling all artists

Artists are invited to participate in a gallery event scheduled for fall.

The library will be “Sitting Pretty” as a unique and artsy collection of hand painted furniture items, painted by local artists, will be sold by silent auction. Styles and subjects will vary, but the common thread will be literary themes. All entries must be based upon a book.

The Frazier Community Library Board of Directors invites all artists to participate in this event by painting and donating a piece to the “Sitting Pretty” collection. All funds generated from this event will benefit the Frazier Community Library.

Football league

Frazier Youth Midget League will hold football and cheerleading registration at the Perryopolis Borough Building on April 28 and May 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Anyone who would like to register must be 5 years of age by July 31 and reside in the Frazier School District. All football players who did not play last year must bring a copy of their birth certificate at the time of registration. Birth certificates are not necessary for cheerleading registration.

The registration fee will be $50 for the first child and $35 for the second child. Other additional siblings will be $25. These fees must be paid at the time of registration. All midget football players and cheerleaders registration will be $25.

Any youth signing up after practice begins will need to have three weeks of practice before playing/cheering in the games. Interested coaches can pick up applications at the time of registration. All coaching applications must be in by May 5. There will be no coaching applications accepted after this date.

Rock ‘n’ Roll’s

Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Allstar Cheerleaders recently competed at Cheerleading Nationals in Ocean City, Md., and brought home two national titles and a first runner-up national title. The girls were awarded National Championship jackets, gold medals and the official National Championship Banner for 2007. Rock ‘n’ Roll’s 8-year and under team members were awarded the 2007 National Champion title.

This same young squad is also Pennsylvania’s State champions, which they won in November 2006. Squad members are, Alex Muccioli, Emma Weiser, Mara Weiser, Chelsea Pillar, Kaley Haller, Katie Haller, Sophie Yantko, Taylor Kovatch, Vienna Capozzi, Madison Baciak, Kyla Denitti, Lauren Reschenthaler, Baylee Martin, Jamie Muccioli (captain) and Amanda King (captain).

Rock ‘n’ Roll’s senior squad is the 2007 Senior National Champions. The Senior Squad performed a flawless routine to win this title. Squad members are, Amber Jamison (captain), Rebekah Lonce, (captain), Alicia Lyons (co-captain), Angelina Rendina (co-captain), Tiffany Conchilla, Keana Bertocci, Sammy King, Rachael Lonce, Stephanie Superick, Carly Superick, Jessica Russell, Kayla Twigg, Leah Muccioli, Alicia Mancuso, Kayla Gilmore, Kayra Gilmore, Kristina Steban, Courteney Protos, Anna Lemley, Bethany Lustik, Krystal Flocker and Chelsea McCune.

Rock – Roll’s Youth Squad (11 years and under) received the first runner-up national champion title. Squad members are, Kaley Barota, Morgan Eckman, Laura Krajzel, Taylor Maldonado Leighanne Mohar, Anna Lazar, Chandler Twigg, Kayla Twigg (captain), Anna Lemley (co-captain), Leah Muccioli (co-captain), Jessica Russell (co-captain), Jamie Muccioli, Amanda King, Chelsea McCune, Krystal Flocker, Baylee Richter, Kristina Steban, Alex Muccioli, Emma Weiser, Vienna Capozzi, Keanna Bertocci, Courtney Protos, Kayra Gilmore, and Alicia Mancuso.

All three squads received paid bids to compete against the Best of the Best at the Cheerleading World Championships in Baltimore, Md., on May 5 and 6. This competition is by invitation only.

The girls hope to bring home the world champion title to Perryopolis. The competition will be televised on national television sometime in June.

St. John basketball

Congratulations go to the St. John Junior Varsity team, (fourth, fifth and sixth grades). They won the Fayette Section regular season title. They then went on to win the Diocese of Greensburg Boys Class A Championship. Their overall record was 19 wins and one loss.

Members of the team were Ethan Weiser, Tyler Kennedy, Charles Manack, Ian Barota, Zack Guiser and Jared Rebovich.

Club fund-raiser

The Santa Barbara Club of Newell will hold a spaghetti dinner on April 29 from noon to 9 p.m. at the club. The cost of the dinner is $6 for adults and $3 for kids. Take-out meals will be available.

Fine Arts Club

The Fine Arts Club of Perryopolis held its annual spring luncheon on April 14 at Lint’s Cochran House in Dawson.

Pat Filak, club president, welcomed members and guests and lit a candle in memory of member Leah Rose Evans.

Lois Carson gave the invocation. Eugene Lint played classical music on the piano during the luncheon.

Patti Lint shared her experiences as a volunteer in Mississippi in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. When asked why she went, she answered, “God told me to go.”

Land plan meeting

The Perry Township Supervisors will hold a public meeting for the Comprehensive Land Plan for Perry Township on May 16 at 6 p.m. at the fire hall in Perryopolis. All residents are invited to attend.

Library event

The Frazier Community Library hosted its third annual “Library Goes Bunco” event on March 4 and 91 guests enjoyed a light-hearted afternoon of rolling dice while contributing to a very worthy cause. All proceeds benefit the community library. Helen Krukowsky was crowned the 2007 Bunco Queen. Guests were treated to chicken salad croissants, veggies and a dessert and beverage bar, as well as prizes. Guests participated in a Chinese auction that included 15 wonderful baskets donated by staff and board members. A silent auction awarded items to the highest bidder. One guest received a gift certificate to Lenora’s Restaurant.

The board of library directors and library staff thank everyone who donated to or participated in this event.

60th birthday party

The Frazier Class of 1965 has set the date for their 60th birthday party picnic. This celebration will be held at St. Nick’s pavilion on Sept. 9. A covered-dish lunch will begin at noon with leftovers to be consumed during the day. Ruthie will probably serve as the DJ again. More details will come as we think them up. ARC campaign

The Perryopolis Knights of Columbus council 4427 will conduct its annual “Measure Up Campaign” for ARC members of Fayette County on May 3, 4 and 5. This fund benefits individuals with mental retardation. Donation locations include National City Bank, Save-A-Lot and Randall’s Restaurant. The K of C thanks the public for its support.

Spring clean-up

The borough of Perryopolis will allow burning of yard debris every Saturday in May from dawn to 6 p.m. for spring clean-up.

Yard debris only may be burned: leaves, branches, limbs and brush. No paper, garbage or burning of larger items is allowed.
