Ohiopyle State Park to host Winter Fest

2 min read

OHIOPYLE – Ohiopyle State Park and Friends of Ohiopyle will host a first annual Winter Fest on Saturday, Feb. 3. Events will take place at the Sugarloaf Sledding area from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Hilltoppers Youth Nordic Group will offer instruction and demonstrations in cross-country skiing. A Seven Springs instructor will offer show-shoeing lessons.

Participants will have a chance to warm up near the fire with some smores and hot chocolate and listen to music, while watching professional ice carver Chef Mark Henry’s Culinary Designs in Ice.

They also can learn some new facts about furs and how to build snow shelters from Ohiopyle staff or watch dog sledding demonstrations.

Participants can cozy up on a horse-drawn sleigh ride or help their kids in a snowman-building contest.

They are asked to bring their own ice skates and sleds to take a ride down the hill after dark.

Donations will be collected to help support the event. Sleigh rides will be offered at a small cost.

For more information, call Ohiopyle State Park at 724-329-8591 or visit friendsofohiopyle.org.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of Ohiopyle.

The group was officially formed in November 2005, although many of its core members have been donating time to the state park for more than 10 years.

The group sponsors monthly trail days at Ohiopyle.
