AG students to present ‘Damn Yankees’ this weekend

Albert Gallatin High School Fine Arts Department will present the Broadway classic “Damn Yankees” today through Sunday in the Albert Gallatin High School Auditorium. Based on Douglas Wallop’s “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant,” “Damn Yankees” gives a new twist to the legend of Faust when a middle-aged baseball fans sells his soul to the Devil for the chance to play for the Washington Senators.

Transformed into a young man, his dreams are fulfilled as he finds himself leading the team in both hitting and pitching. But, there is a price to be paid – his soul must be given up for eternity before the final game of the season.

The Devil and his seductive assistant are waiting to collect, tempting with romance and wealth. Will good triumph over evil?

Heading the cast are Dennis Gallagher as the soul-selling Joe; C.J. Durso as the Devil; Katarina Whitmarsh as the Devil’s temptress; and Justin Butcho as the coach of the Washington Senators.

Cast in the role of older Joe is Nathan Townsend. Joe’s wife, Meg, is played by Taylor Hackley, along with Meg’s friends played by Tiffany Lehman and Lauren Smochinsky.

Other team members include Dustin Hoffman, Nathan Gruden, Brett Clark, Phil Oglevee, Jacob Walsh, Jeno Desmond, Mark Rattay and Patrick Tharp.

Other cast members include Wesley Kopas and Andrew Colebank.

Directors are Toby Maykuth, Jeanne Fike, Jackie Cavey and Linda Moore.

The orchestra is under the direction of Jeremy Kendall.
