Hopwood parade set for May 19
HOPWOOD – The eighth annual Hopwood Village Parade celebrating the National Road Festival will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19. The parade will begin at the National city Bank and proceed on Route 40 to the Bennington Road intersection.
The Amvets Post 103 color guard will lead the marchers, which will include county and township officials, the Laurel Highlands Senior High School Band, Laurel Highlands Middle School Band, Hutchinson Elementary School students, Fayette County Canine Search and Rescue, Boy Scouts, HARC Baseball League team members, Laurel Highlands Senior High School students and other community organizations. Antique cars will be featured.
The ceremony crowning the village royalty will be held at 11 a.m. on the National City Banl lawn area. Food, entertainment, sidewalk sales and the annual Hopwood Garden Club Plant Sale will highlight the day’s events along with many flea markets.
From 3 to 5 p.m., a fishing derby for children age 12 and under will take place at the South Union Township Recreation Area at Hutchinson. Hutchinson Run is the stream at the park.
Prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served. Participants must bring their own fishing gear.
An old-time doubleheader baseball game will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the ball field at South Union Township Recreational Park at Hutchinson. Refreshments will be available.
