Choral group to honor Ball at dinner
Local pianist Joanna Ball, longtime accompanist with the Greater Uniontown Chorale, will be honored Monday night during a recognition dinner at the Flamingo Steak House in Uniontown. Ball spent 20 years as the accompanist with the Greater Uniontown Chorale and now serves as the accompanist for the Beesontown Singers of Uniontown, a newly create group directed by Bill Dreucci. Prior to serving as the accompanist for the Greater Uniontown Chorale, Ball spent 13 years as the accompanist with the Connellsville Community Chorus.
A public school teacher for many years, Ball spent the last 19 years of her career with the Connellsville School District at Junior High East, where she taught music. Prior to teaching in the Connellsville School District, Ball taught in the Mount Lebanon schools near Pittsburgh and the West Seneca schools in the state of New York. Ball received her bachelor of music degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. She earned a master’s of music degree as a piano major at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She also studied at the University of Buffalo in New York, where she was certified in music education. For the past 18 years, she has served as president of the Connellsville Mozart Club. She is currently organist and choir director at two churches in Connellsville – Trinity Lutheran Church and the First Baptist Church. She received the Athena Award in 2005 from the Connellsville Chamber of Commerce for her contributions to music in the area. For information about the dinner, call 724-437-8986.
