Geyer theater to present Broadway retrospective
SCOTTDALE – In honor of its 20th anniversary, The Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale will present “Broadway Through the Years,” a retrospective of the popular musicals that have been performs on the stage over the past two decades. The show features an evening of all Broadway hits performed by manage of the cast members who originated these roles at the theater.
The audience will hear songs from the following musicals: “Man of LaMancha,” “Annie,” “Music Man,” “Bye, Bye Birdie,” “South of Music,” “Cinderella,” “How to Succeed in Business,” “Wizard of Oz,” “Mame,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Godspell,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Anything Goes,” Disney’s “High School Musical,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Oklahoma!” “Beauty and the Beast, “Into the Woods Jr.” and “Grease.”
After a spectacular history as the area’s premier cultural center, the theater was rescued from deteriorating obscurity in 1988 to form the non-profit Geyer Performing Arts Center.
The new non-profit status has helped broaden the horizons of the theater to include greater civic involvement and low-cost education programs.
The theater’s current residents celebrate their efforts by revisiting the performances that helped make the theater a modern community presence for the past two decades.
Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
