Cal U to hold ‘Party in the Park’ festivities at Roadman Park
CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania will conclude its first week of the 2008 fall semester by conducting its annual “Party in the Park” festivities at Roadman Park on Aug. 30. At noon, Cal U’s three-time defending PSAC-West champion and 2007 NCAA Division II national semi-finalist football team will open the 2008 season by hosting defending PSAC-East champion West Chester University at Adamson Stadium’s Hepner-Bailey Field.
FSN Pittsburgh will televise the game nationally and a year ago the Vulcans won 30-14 at West Chester en route to a 13-1 overall record. Tickets to the Vulcan football game are free for all Cal U students with a valid CalCard. Tickets are available at a cost for adults and non Cal U students.
Preceding the game will be a Vulcan Huddle Tent tailgate sponsored by the Cal U Alumni Association, and the festivities begin at 10 a.m. The Vulcan Huddle Tent takes place at every Cal U home football game and welcomes all alumni and friends of the university. At no charge, the tailgaters will enjoy entertainment with a D.J., food, prizes and camaraderie heading into kickoff.
Immediately following the football game, the President’s Welcome Back Picnic will take place at Roadman Park. The picnic dinner will be available to all students, faculty and staff who have a valid CalCard. All others attending the “Party in the Park” may purchase meal tickets.
Coinciding with the picnic will be a concert with no admission charge that will take place on the baseball field at Roadman Park. The Chris Higbee Project (country) will perform from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. while The Clarks (modern pop/rock) will conclude the party by playing from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Clarks (www.theclarksonline.com) is a rock band regionally based in the Pittsburgh area. For two decades, they have produced a total of 12 studio, live and solo releases, selling more than quarter of a million copies.
